Jhon W is the founder and editor of Paycheck Calculator by State. He builds the calculators on this site and checks each one before it is published.
What he builds
Free online calculators that show the working behind the answer. On this site that means paycheck, overtime, time card and pay raise calculators that follow the official method step by step and name the source of every figure.
How each calculator is checked
- Every rate, bracket and limit is read from the official page of the agency that sets it, and the date of the check is recorded.
- The method is the published one: IRS Publication 15-T, Worksheet 1A, for federal income tax, and the regular-rate rules of the U.S. Department of Labor for overtime.
- Worked examples are calculated by hand and then compared with the calculator. 756 automated checks run before each update.
- Each page is tested at phone and desktop widths.
The full method is on the methodology page.
